Besides striving for academic excellence, Stella Maris also assigns a high degree of importance to sports and games. Mrs. Mangaladurai, the first Physical Directress of the College, played a key role in shaping the sports activities of the College.

Games is offered for two semesters to all first-year students under Part V of the Academic Programme, and students may choose any one of the following games: Basketball, Kho-Kho, Lawn Tennis, Cricket, Volleyball and Table Tennis. Experienced coaches have been appointed by the College to train and guide the students. From 1960 onwards, when the College was shifted to the present campus, good infrastructural facilities were gradually set up and coaching in the various sports was arranged. Stella Maris College offers the following sports facilities to the students: a Hockey Court, a Basketball Court, a Volleyball Court, a Kho-Kho Court, two Tennis Courts (clay and cement), a Ball Badminton Court, an indoor Table Tennis Court and two Cricket Pitches (one concrete and one turf.) Full utilization of these facilities is ensured by regular practice sessions for the students.

The College has State-level teams for the following disciplines: Athletics, Basketball, Chess, Cricket, Handball, Hockey, Kho-Kho, Ball Badminton, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Shuttle Badminton, Lawn Tennis, Swimming, Rowing and Shooting. These teams also participate in National-level tournaments.

At the time of admission, weightage is given to students with outstanding sports records, and the College supports and encourages the team players with fee concessions, as well as TA/DA and entry fee for students participating in Tournaments.

Every year, the College teams record very impressive performances, winning First and Second positions in various Inter-Collegiate Meets as well as State and National-level Tournaments. The individual performances of the students are also impressive, with many championship wins.

The Games Department is committed to maintaining high standards of excellence in Sports and Games.
