The Entrepreneurship Development Cell of the College was set up in 2006, with the support of the National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB), Department of Science and Technology, Government of India with the aim of motivating students from different disciplines to take up Entrepreneurship as a career option. The cell also aims at assisting women to start micro-enterprises, thus instilling self-confidence and contributing to their socio-economic growth and development.
Entrepreneurship Awareness Camps of 3 days duration are regularly conducted in the College to expose students to the concept of Self-Employment, and to motivate them to be employers rather than employees. The EAC programme focuses on the various dimensions of Entrepreneurship, the opportunities for entrepreneurs in today’s global scenario, and the entrepreneurship skills which are necessary to be a successful entrepreneur. The programme includes panel discussions with successful entrepreneurs as well as field visits to micro-enterprises.
Skill Development Training is an important component of Entrepreneurship Development. The EDC offers Certificate Courses in Skill Development to the general public as well as the students of the college. These programmes cover a wide range of skills, giving the participants hands-on training in
  • Fruit / vegetable processing and preservation, and the preparation of jams, pickles, sauces, and squashes.
  • Paper Conversion, ie the making of files, envelopes, paper bags, photo frames, flap pads, etc.
  • Preparation of herbal products such as pain balm, herbal shampoo, axe oil, fairness cream, foot care cream and lotions.
  • Jewellery designing and making of necklaces, bracelets and earrings.
The participants also receive training in the preparation of Business Proposals.
As part of the outreach programme of the College, the EDC regularly conducts Training programmes on the processing and preservation of fruits and vegetables for rural women in Thirupassur, Thiruvellore District, and encourages them to start their own business ventures.
A General Elective course - Developing Entrepreneurial Initiatives - is also offered to students. The objective of the course is to instill the spirit of entrepreneurship in the students and focuses on the characteristics and importance of entrepreneurship, motivation, market analysis and identification of entrepreneurial opportunities.
The EDC collaborates with experts from various organizations and is a member of the National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN) which works at the International level to instill the spirit of entrepreneurship in the student community and assists in sharing resources at the National level. It is guided by an Advisory Board for smooth and effective functioning.
The EDC is also involved in offering consultancy and guidance to aspiring entrepreneurs who want to set up micro enterprises. The areas of consultancy include Food Processing, Preparation of Herbal Products, and Food and Water Analysis.
