The College

Stella Maris College, a Catholic institution of higher education for women, is under the management of the Society of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary. "Stella Maris" in Latin means "Star of the Sea". "Truth and Charity" is the motto of the College. The College emblem is a ship sailing on stormy waters, led on by a star. The vision of the College is to build a vibrant and inclusive learning community in a culture of excellence sustained by a sound value system that promotes responsible citizenship and effects social change. Its mission is to empower young women to face the challenges of life with courage and commitment, to be builders of a humane and just society, and to promote a learning community in which all, especially those from less privileged backgrounds, feel part of the collaborative, high quality educational process which is value-based and leads to holistic growth.

The Stella Maris International Centre for Multidisciplinary Research (SMICMR) is the nodal centre that coordinates and facilitates the vibrant research culture of the College. At present, faculty are carrying out a number of projects funded by various agencies.

The Centre also encourages research at various levels and is particularly interested in promoting multidisciplinary research initiatives.
