College Highlights

It was time for the batch of 2014-15 to bid farewell to their dear College, that transformed them into mature, strong women, with a bag full of memories that would last a lifetime. The Valedictory for this special batch was held on 28 March 2017. The programme began with a prayer service with readings from the Holy Bible and The Gitanjali. The Secretary, Sr. Susan, fmm, united every spirit in prayer while the Principal, Dr. Sr. Jacintha Quadras, fmm, gave a thoughtful address that spread hope for the students who would leave the portals of the College soon.

The occasion was graced by the presence of the Chief Guest, Dr. Anandi Subramanian, Senior Economic Advisor, Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change. She is an alumna of the College, who graduated in 1980 with a distinction in economics. She joined the Indian Economic Service and has worked in various capacities both in the Central and State Government. Her speech was an inspiring account of her journey and how each expected and unexpected turning point in life, when looked back at was not just a coincidence but rather a part of a bigger plan that helped her evolve into what she is today. Her pearls of wisdom were very well summarised in the form of a 5 point mantra: 1. Be passionate about what you do and embrace every moment of the journey 2. Take some time to pause, re-evaluate the choices made so far and seek happiness 3. Believe in oneself 4. Be ambitious, possess the drive to go forward, but when required, go with the flow 5. Make qualitative investments in people and not social media

The activities of the Alumnae Association and the Career Guidance Cell were elucidated and an appeal was made to remain in the association’s network: “Once a Stella Marian, always a Stella Marian.”

A few students also shared their experiences of how Stella Maris shaped their ideals and what they would miss most about the College. Be it the friendships formed, hostel nights or participation in extra-curricular activities, there were a million misty memories that the students could recall from their days in campus.

The outgoing batch took a pledge to use education as an instrument to serve the country, do good to others and live up to the ideals of the Star of The Sea. This was followed by the oath taking ceremony of the Social Work students.

Followed by the vote of thanks, rendered by the Vice President, Students’ Union 2016-17, Ms. Kavya Ravi, the gathering came together, as is the custom, in lighting up the lamps which symbolizes unity, knowledge and truth. The students were filled with pride as they sang the College Song in the loudest of voices. The evening ended with the candle procession to Mother Mary’s grotto.

Mixed emotions of pride, happiness, nostalgia and hope for the future filled the path that lay ahead for each Stella Marian who was about to step beyond the doors of such a great institution. The stories of our senior alumnae who have achieved various laurels across the world are testimony of how the College moulded little pebbles into shining gems, ready to awe the world with the beauty of their service and goodness of their hearts. There is only one message each student wanted to send out to the College:
Thank you Stella Maris!
